Scantily clad old lad

Its one of those compositions you do for days on a really large piece of paper propped on a wooden frame. Its basically a life-size charcoal study.

From His Cold Dead Hands

This illustration I decided to name...."Slim's dead".

I submit this post in the wanning hours of my birthday. I can say that I had a good year...no, wait, thats something you say at New Years. Anyways, happy b-day to me.

I was saddened, however, to learn yesterday that one of the greatest men of Hollywood, Charlton Heston, passed away. While televised reports of his death were awash with segments from epics such as 10 Commandments and Beh Hur, largely omitted was, in my opinion, the most overlooked Heston's film, a true gem, Soylent Green, for which reason I decided to place here the movie's most dramatic and tragic segment.

This film is emotional, dark, pessimistic, and is in my opinion the best environmental film of all times. It does strike a cord, just like Heston did, whether in his acting or his activism. Heston, who would in a same sentence cite Martin Luther King, JFK, Nixon and Reagan as his role models, has raised much controversy in his political views that have over decades shifted from Civil Liberties Movement in the Sixties to more recent fervent support of Gun Rights and opposition to Affirmative Action.

All in all, a complicated, controversial figure, and by far one of the greatest men of our times. He will be missed.

Red Dawn!

Another quick sketch I did at school today. School was out early today, due to the visit of US president G.W. Bush to our nation's capital. This visit placed the whole town under siege, which is quite understandable given the importance of our guests. I hope all goes well for Mr. Bush and his wife Laura.

April's Fool

Been back to the Pinetree Bay, where I sketched some scenery and boats, but also some ink studies. Enjoy.
